Tonight I can report to the American people and to the world, that the United States has conducted an operation that has killed Osama bin Laden — the leader of al-Qaeda and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.
glad this was by spec. ops. not a drone strike.

President Barack Obama. (via thedailywhat)

After my grandfather was severely wounded in the first days of Normandy, he opted to stay in the Army for the duration of the war when he probably could have gone. He couldn’t serve as the platoon sergeant of his infantry unit thanks to the hole in his stomach, so he took pictures for an artillery unit instead.
Basically he flew around in a Piper Cub plane as a forward observer and tried to spot targets and enemy movements. They would come back and battalion would analyze their photos and reports.
This photo was taken by men in his unit, but I haven’t been able to confirm if he was the guy taking the shot. I assume there were only a few guys who did this so I guess its possible. I will never know because he died of complications to his wounds in the 1960s.
When I see this photo, it almost freaks me out that a guy who went through North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France while suffering from a recurring case of malaria and two wounds would want get on a boat for Germany rather than taking a hospital ship back to the US when given the option. I guess that is why I have this blog…
I had a great uncle who was a recon pilot, the thing he must have seen.
Sadly he died before I was old enough to really want to listen
